History:
This original chapel was built by the Jesuits in 1567. According to ‘Orient
Conquistado’ the church of Sao Tome’ existed already in 1581, Another
source says it was built in 1588 and some time later three small chapels were
built in Cansaulim: of Our Lady of Remedies, St Stephen and St. Lawrence. St
Thomas Church was managed by the Jesuits till 1759. The present church was built
by parishnores residing in Arossim, Cansaulim, Cuelim, Velsao, pale, Chicolna
and Issorcim.
